Things are going a little better, but no less precarious.
I visited Rocky this morning. He's doing better. Ornery. But behaving for the most part. When he saw me, he meowed, which is the most vocal he's been since I brought him up yesterday, according to the nurses. He'd grunted or whined for them, but that was it. Actually, according to the nurses, he's been really, really good.
His blood glucose went up overnight, which was expected. It was around 320. But they gave him another shot of insulin, and it was down to 265 by the time I went up there. His whole metabolism, electrolytes and such, is still really screwed up, but approaching normal.
They tube fed him while I was up there so they could show me how to do it. Chances are, I may have to do that when I get him home for a little while, until he eats a whole meal by himself. His liver enzymes are better, except for one enzyme, which will improve as they get more food into him. But they got 49ccs into him, and he kept it down, which is really good.
I spent about an hour and a half with him. I brought some speakers with me and plugged in my Sansa so we had some familiar music from home. I also brought him his Mr. Bun and Mr. Cockroach stuffed anim...er, action figures. He purred and squinted for me, which was good.
I also brought my Eyewitness Books: Cat book so we could look at pictures of kitties, big and small. Rocky, he and I decided, is a miniature version of a black leopard.
( Cut for pictures )
Part of me is very proud of him for being as good as he's being. It tells me he trusts me, which is a big step after his abandonment issues from his former "owners." More than that, he trusts my judgment that he's where he needs to be to feel better, and thus he trusts the doctors and nurses up there. Sadly, I'm not entirely sure I'm deserving of it right now. We'll see if he pulls through...
