HAPPY BIRFDAY [personal profile] annietopia!!

Just have a little laundry to finish up, and then the weekend chores are done.

Mom and Rich may have a solution to the wedding flower woes: Costco. In short, they can order flowers from there, then create the centerpieces and such themselves. With help, of course. Good thing I'm already looking ahead and figuring of taking some vacation time around then.

Today has been a lazy day for me. I woke up in the middle of the night with a stomach ache and esophagitis, coupled with an obligatory panic attack. Took stuff for it, then zonked out. Until noon. Then I took a nap. So, yeah, brain no worky today...

The cloudy/rainy/drizzly/foggy weather doesn't help, either. Though I do get a sense of happiness, or maybe just smugness, that I did get the outdoor Christmas decorations and lights taken down and put away yesterday.

I'm also in a weird headspace to begin with... One of the books I'm reading, My Enemy, My Ally... It's an original series Trek novel by Diane Duane. I've read it twice before, and both times, it was during a rather nasty life-changing crisis. The first time was when Dad had his heart attack back in July of 1989. The second time was when I had to change schools in 1991. I know it's entirely irrational, but since then, I've considered the book to be "cursed" somehow, and even though I enjoyed the story, I've avoided re-reading it. But now, I have a copy on my Kindle. I feel like I need to hurry up and finish reading it before something bad happens rather than to just...enjoy the story.

Again, I know it's entirely irrational. But the events mentioned happened in my early-to-mid teens, and have stuck with me since. One of those irrational childhood things that carry over to adulthood, you know?

Anyway, not much else. Dental cleaning and night guard fitting tomorrow. Mom's birfday next weekend and a three-day weekend. Other than that, it looks to be a fairly quiet week. And since I get paid this week, that also means a trip to CBH. Woot?

Though, when all is said and done, I'll be happy to be a non-sick, normal-ish-feeling human bean.

Caturday

Hrm... Had a little trouble logging on with Semagic... I figure there's a lot of traffic on the interwebs, what with the hurricane and all, or maybe the internets are starting to have a few strands cut from aforementioned hurricane, or the Russkies playing political games are at it again...

ANYway, just some rain so far. The storm's not supposed to hit hard until around 5 or 6. I'm thinking I might go for a quick outing before I get locked in, so to speak, and start developing cabin fever. Batteries and devices are charged. Candles and such are on stand-by. IF we have to evacuate, I figure Yoda will get one of the cat carriers, Bonnie and Clyde's cage can still fit into a car, and I'll keep Rocky on a harness leash, with the other furkids in carriers (I only have one carrier per cat, and if a parrot needs to be in one...). Good to go.

I'm leaving this post open, in case anyone local needs info. WDEL has a list of Red Cross shelters in the area. Note the ones that are pet-friendly. The News-Journal also urges people to include pets in emergency preparations.

FEMA has also released this statement:

"As Hurricane Irene prepares to batter the East Coast, federal disaster officials warn that Internet outages could force people to interact with other people for the first time in years. Residents are bracing themselves for the horror of awkward silences and unwanted eye contact. FEMA advises: Be prepared. Write down possible topics to talk about in advance. Broadway shows, sports, the weather. Remember, a conversation is basically a series of Facebook updates strung together."

On the lighter side, there's this...

As my brain cells tend to commit suicide when watching Jersey Shore, or most other popular shows these days, I...just don't watch all that much TV, really...

Funderstorms

Quick post...

I like thunderstorms. I think they're beautiful. And mayhaps my fascination of them comes from Back to the Future...

However... Poor Minerva is scared of them. She's hiding under the bed in her room. Poor kid. Gods know if and how many she was caught in when she was on her own. Given her worm situation when I adopted her, Dr. Lon is pretty sure she was on her own for quite some time. As in, months.

TomTom was on his own for a few months before we adopted him or, more appropriately, before he chose us and moved in about 14 years ago. I honestly don't remember if he was ever scared of thunderstorms. I know Riffy was for awhile, given that I adopted him roughly two weeks after a "mild" hurricane came around here. Though he doesn't seem much phased by them these days. Boomer was scared of thunderstorms and, though he got better over time, when we first got him, he tried to hide under the coffee table in the rec room. He was a 70-pound Australian Cattle Dog, and the table in question only had about a foot's worth of clearance on the bottom. You can imagine the amusing aspects of him barely getting his head and front paws under the table to hide from the storm.

Yoda's firth thunderstorm resulted in his getting scared and dropping all his tail feathers. It was close to his first spring molt, so, it wasn't too bad.

Behind me are two cats on my bed. TomTom, asleep on his kooshes, without a care in the world. Rocky at the foot of my bed, snoring quietly. That's security.

And the funny that went through my mind? Thunder, THUNDER, THUNDERCATS! HO!
