HAPPY BIRFDAY [profile] divine_delerium!!

So, last night, I was getting an insulin syringe ready for Minerva, and Rocky hopped up on the kitchen table and got in position like he would when he was getting insulin. So, I pinched the back of his neck, made a tent, and pushed the capped syringe into his neck. He gave me a look that said, "I know you're bullshitting me," but he was otherwise mollified by the attention. Minerva still tries to slink away from the shot.

First thing this morning, I took Minerva up to Lantana for her glucose check. Her levels were down to 468, which is a slight improvement, so, they upped her to three units twice a day. Dr. Emslie also found where she's got an ear infection in both ears, so, she's got ear drops for the next two weeks, too. This isn't all that unusual for a new diabetic to develop some sort of infection, so, yeah. In addition, Minerva has fairly hairless ears, in addition to a kinked tail, so...

Poor kid. But, she seems to be responding to treatment. Her activity is back to about the level it was before I started noticing the extra water consumption. Though after the vet today, she went into her room and went under the bed for about two hours.

And yes, she is MUCH quieter in the car than Rocky. Though when she does meow, it startles the crap out of me. Other than that, she was just watching me drive, trying to look out the windows, and so on. We were about a half mile from home when she just stretched out and started going to sleep.

I apparently have the sympathies of the techs up at the vet. They said they were talking about me before I showed up on my abominable luck, but that at least I had really good cats. (I've been told my cats are very good compared to most other cats, who tend to bite, scratch, and be as uncooperative as possible.)

Anyway, we're good until Thursday night, when Minerva has her next glucose check. I just have to keep in mind which cat gets shots, which cat I'm shoving into a carrier, and so on...

Today's been a lazy day otherwise. After I got back from the vet and medicated Minerva, I helped Mom and Rich load up all the old prescriptions and meds to be taken to a drop-off site. We spent more time cracking jokes about selling the drugs to the people in the apartments behind us and making $1k to $2k. Told them not to get stopped on the way for transporting drugs. Anyway, they dropped off all the old drugs, had some jaw-dropping reactions from the people and the cops there, but, hey... Some of this crap was over ten years old. And given the joint replacements and tonsillectomy and such, we had some goooooood stuff...

So, they ran their errands and I...passed out. I've had some insomnia issues the past few nights. Hard time falling asleep, then waking up in the middle of the night and next to impossible to fall asleep. So, I napped through most of the afternoon.

Yesterday, I was able to get the grass cut, which is a start. But, I still need to clean the bathroom, take care of the cat boxes, take care of my laundry, vacuum the house, and some other odds and ends. On the bright side, Mom and Rich are going out tonight, so, I'll have an empty, quiet house to work with. I have my Mahi Mahi fillets out thawing and will make that for dinner.

HAPPY BIRFDAY [profile] daytonward!!!

Today has been busy, but productive. Grass is cut, hair is cut, a few other things are done... I still have stuff to take care of. Like the cat boxes, laundry, weekly computer maintenance... Oh well.

Tomorrow is Dani's baptism and then a party at her house afterwards.

My mind has been all over the place with regards to Cammie and so on. I hate this not knowing crap...

But...thanks for all the people here and on FB who have offered words of support, encouragement, and so on over the past few weeks. It's appreciated.

HAPPY BIRFDAY [profile] mercurykitty AND [personal profile] tacit!!

It...has been a busy weekend. Yesterday felt like a bit of a lazy day, but, it was okay for it to be. First off, my eight-year-old angel fish, Spectrum (all my angel fish are named Spectrum) died. This is the second long-lived angel fish I've had. The last one lived about eight years, too. Anyway, he was the last fish in the tank. I have since shut down the tank. When the weather gets nicer, I'll drain the rest of the water down, toss the gravel, clean everything up, and store it until we move. The plus side of Spectrum's passing is that now I don't have to worry about moving him, switching tanks for transport, and so on, and doing everything quickly so that he doesn't die of hypothermia and expertly so he doesn't die of water shock. Now, I can simply move the tank and equipment, and after we get set up in the new place, put everything together, get new gravel, fill it with water, take a few days to balance out the water, then get new fish.

I briefly thought about just simply...not having a fish tank anymore. But, it's been a bit of a hobby for me for almost 20 years, and when the tank is clean and there are fish in there, people like to come in and see the fish and watch them for a bit. In the new house, I'll have the tank set up in my "office" in the basement so people can more easily enjoy the fish.

The other downer for yesterday was that Mom's aunt, Aunt Carolyn, lost her battle with cancer. Even though she was Mom's aunt, she was only about 10 years older, if that. My prayers are with her second husband, Fred, down in Florida, where they moved to after they got married. They were very active with Habitat for Humanity, until her cancer came back. She had originally had kidney cancer, which she beat, but then came down with lung cancer. She's been in hospice for about two months.

I...wasn't especially close to her. But I am very grateful for something she did. About a year after Dad died, Aunt Carolyn was talking to Mom and said she sounded like Mom needed a break. She paid Mom's air fare for her to go down and spend about a week down there with her and Fred. The trip was a rather healing one for Mom. And for that kindness towards Mom, I am very thankful to her.

There will be a funeral and burial down there in Florida. Given everything happening right now with new jobs, new babies, and new houses, we just...can't get away. Which sucks. But I'll admit I'd rather be playing with my niece than traveling.

Mom and Rich are down in Odessa today, signing the almost-final papers for the new house. They want a letter from Mom's new employer stating that she is employed and such before they make the final papers for the mortgage and such and start construction. But after today, it's pretty much a done deal and we don't have to worry about someone else snatching up the lot or anything.

So many ways in which life is changing. Starting anew...

I've gotten most of the housework for the weekend done. Just need to take care of some computer things and finish up my laundry. I might also go visit my sister and niece and do my grocery shopping. Alas, I still haven't gotten to work on my taxes. And next weekend? I'm scheduled for the ALYX blood donation (hopefully, my hemoglobin will be high enough for it, or else I'll try again next month). And next week is a vacuuming weekend, though, I'm going to try to get that done before I go donate some RBCs. But I was hoping to go dancing next Saturday night, but, we'll see how my energy level is after donating.

Anyway, more later...

High-speed, low-budget post...

I have slept a LOT over the past two days. But then last night, I started getting some stuff done. Checking in comics and so on. This weekend is a "light" chore weekend, with only laundry and cat boxes and such to worry about. But I am hoping to at least get the outdoor lights up while we have some above-freezing temperatures during the day. I might run an errand or two this afternoon as well.

I have to say Thanksgiving was rather enjoyable this year. I ate way too much, though, despite efforts to pace myself. I've been surprisingly restrained with leftovers, though.

Yesterday was a day of errands. With the deposit of my paycheck, I paid several bills and then went to the vet to get another ampule of insulin for Rocky. Kid should have enough insulin and syringes to get us through Christmas and New Years.

I haven't done any writing since Tuesday. I'm hoping that I'll get some done tomorrow, if not tonight.

On the bright side, "Christmas Spirit" is up to 7170 words...

And, since I worked on "Star Wars: Escape" this month...

Actually, it may be closer to done than the meter shows. Unless I decide to combine the second story idea into the first story, which would be do-able.

Everything else still needs some serious outlining.

And then the reading update... )

HAPPY BIRFDAY [profile] dr_nebula!!

Weekend chores are just about done. Last load is in the dryer, will be done soon, and will then be folded and put away. Lunch stuff is all ready to go.

I slept through a good chunk of today. Meh. I figure I must have needed it. On the bright side, my allergies are a mild annoyance, not even requiring medication right now.

Rocky was cute last night. As I was falling asleep, I was aware of him petting my face and booping my nose. He's very reciprocative.

Dinner in a little bit. Mom's making chicken parmigiana and spaghetti. The over to my seester's house for cake and ice cream in honor of my brother-in-law's natal day.

Anyway, as I am short on time, no comics, but a few web things here...

Dogs are People, Too. Dogs undergo MRI scans and show similar scans to humans.

Elephant spontaneously joins in piano playing. I like how the elephant bobs his head, too.

I haven't gotten much done today, certainly not as much as yesterday, but then, I didn't have as much to do...

I finished the laundry. Yaay! I also spent some time outside, masking off certain parts of the car, and trying out that rust-inhibiting, black-drying primer on some of the rust areas. So far, I'm not all that impressed, but then, it's still drying, and the real test will be if the rust growth is at least slowed significantly.

Mom is finishing up painting the exterior of the upstairs window with painting her bedroom window. So, her window was open, and she's getting ready to come out on the "first floor roof," and Riffy's right there at the window, all curious. And he sees me, and is ready to come out.

Now, I figured he hated me, or had at least lost interest in me, because of Rocky, even though I had originally gotten Rocky as a playmate and companion to him after Loki, my sister's cat, moved out when she moved out.

Anyway, to prevent any tragic problems, Mom put Riffy in Minerva's room.

Just checked on them... Minerva hasn't run under her bed yet, and Riffy is just hanging out on the windowsill. This is progress, since before, Riffy hid in a corner and Minerva growled from under her bed. Now, she is at least affording Riffy the same courtesy (?) she gives Rocky... She's Not Happy about Rocky being in there, but, she'll stay on her bed until Rocky hops on the bed with her. As soon as he looks away, she darts under the bed. If he's lucky, he'll get close enough to where he is obviously sniffing her, at which point, she'll smack him across the face and then run under the bed, whether he's watching or not.

But, yeah, this is the first time Riffy and Minerva have "interacted" since the annual trip to the vet a little over a year ago. At that point, they just didn't give a shit about each other.

Anyway, whilst painting, Mom managed to let the window close, and couldn't get it back open from the outside. She started banging on it. I...had just laid down since my hip was killing me from working on the car, so, I wasn't paying much attention. Fortunately, Rocky pulled his "Lassie: Timmy's in the well!" routine, and I finally heard the noise and went to open the window to let Mom back in.

Life around here is... Yeah.

On a final note... Rich is much more ambulatory these days. But when he sits down in the rec room and props his foot up, Yoda asks him if he's okay and if he'd like some water. Not like Yoda will get up and get Rich some water, but, it's still nice to know he asks. I dunno. Maybe he thinks Rocky will get the water.

Hard to believe it's just about October now. But what's worse is remembering that tomorrow is Monday.

It has been a busy but productive day.

I have:
-Finished making iced tea and made my sandwiches for lunch for the week
-Changed the sheets on my bed, washed the previous set, and put them away.
-Did a load of towels
-Cleaned my bathroom
-Cleaned the cat boxes and bird cages
-Took out the trash
-Watered my plants
-Cut the grass
-Vacuumed the house
-Ran weekly maintenance on the computers (virus scan, disk defrag, updates)
-Bought syntec oil and topped off the car as well as checking the other fluids and lights
-Started my last load of laundry

All that's left for tomorrow is to finish my laundry, since I doubt I'll get it through the machines and such tonight.

All the work is catching up to me, and I'm getting sore. Oh well. On the bright side, I have a chiropractor appointment Monday after work.

Rocky followed me around as I did most of the stuff above. He helped me make the bed. He kept me company while I cleaned the bathroom. He followed me around when I took care of the litter boxes and bird cages. He hid while I vacuumed... Now, he's zonked out on the bed, snoring.

Anyway, time for reading and coffee... I'm almost done Una McCormack's contribution to The Fall miniseries with her Next Generation novel The Crimson Shadow.

HAPPY BIRFDAY [profile] sir_cat, [personal profile] oxymoron67, AND [personal profile] klingonguy!!!

So... High-speed, low-budget post...

I slept in all of fifteen minutes this morning, since Rocky wanted food and insulin, Yoda wanted food, and Brigid and Brandon needed to go out and go potty. Oh well. Though, I've been napping on and off all day...

That's not to say I haven't been at least somewhat productive. I've gotten a start on laundry. I cleaned my bathroom. I've watered the plants. I've gotten other odds and ends done. I'm mid-way though taking care of the cat boxes and trash, but, I'm slowly whacking back my to-do list for the weekend. My goal is to have next to nothing to worry about for Monday. And the less I have to worry about for tomorrow, the better.

Not much else. Rocky is happy it's the weekend and has been following me around most of the time. He, Yoda, and I watched the series finale for Star Trek: The Next Generation, "All Good Things..." Now, I have finally seen all of the TNG episodes. Yes, there were a few that I never saw because I had set the VCR to tape them, only to have a hockey game or somesuch pre-empt them. Actually, that's why I stopped watching Voyager in the seventh season... It was never on when it was supposed to be, so, setting the VCR was useless. I'll eventually get Voyager (and DS9 and the enhanced Original Series [I have the regular Original Series on DVD]) on DVD.

To top it off, the last year of TNG was my senior year of high school, so, I was also a bit busy with graduating and getting ready for college. In fact, the original air date of "All Good Things..." was my high school graduation night. And I just never...watched the beginning of the episode. But now, I have seen the TNG run in its entirety. That last episode was like some sort of warped Christmas Carol as well. I mean, it starts and ends with Picard demanding to know the date. And he's visited by the past, the present, and the future.

Thing is, and thanks to all the wonderful Trek authors, I had a hard time watching "All Good Things..." as an end to TNG. Leaving aside the movies, the fact is that the books have done a more than adequate job in continuing the TNG story/saga. (Not to mention, DS9 and Voyager, too.)

Not much else. So, back to work, I suppose...

First point: I did indeed go dancing last night. Though due to a brain fart, I forgot that they ended the social dance at 11 instead of 11:30 these days, and I didn't get there until a little after 10. Still, I got a good amount of dancing in. It would be much easier to count the number of times I didn't dance in that hour. The androderm patches must be making some progress, because in that hour, I danced two cha chas, a few rumbas, plus a bolero, a few fox trots, a few waltzes, and a few tangos. The cha chas are especially significant, since, as a high-energy dance, they tend ti wear me out a bit more quickly. And I did two of 'em!

My legs are screaming in pain, of course. The good kind of pain, as from a good workout. Still, I feel like I've got a giant knot in my left quadriceps.

This morning, I managed to cut the grass. While the temperature wasn't that high (mid-70s), the humidity was such that I was sweating rivers. Even the cold shower I took afterwards had a hard time cooling me off.

Now? I'm feeling rather physically drained. Still replenishing lost fluids. Hopefully before I develop another kidney stone, too.

Not much else, since I've just been busy with housework and whatnot.

In case you haven't seen it, here's the amazing response from the White House regarding the petition to build the Death Star.

In Dave Land... It's been a productive Caturday, which I guess is the trade-off for waking up early. And I mean the insomnia kind of "wake up early." Meaning I kinda wanted to sleep in a little. Eh, no matter.

I did some research on NTB's website, and, well, getting replacement tires for my car may be...problematic. As in, the size and brand I want, well, they carry the brand, but the size not in the brand I want. I'm fairly sure they could special-order the size from the manufacturer, but, I doubt they often run sales on tires that they don't typically stock. So, no hurry right now. As is, the problem tire has been holding the air and such, so, it's not critical for me to get tires this weekend. I figure I may have a month or two. Depending how the trip to the dentist on Monday goes.

Anyway, I managed to get most of the weekend chores done. The outdoor Christmas lights are down and put away. In fact, all the outdoor decorations are put away. I have taken down some decorations and put them in the living room for now. I still need to bring up the storage boxes, but, at least there's a start to everything. Furthermore, the lights, which draw this magical power called "electricity," are away until next season.

I also managed to put some storage boxes away in the attic for Mom.

I doubt I'm going to make it to dance tonight after all. Despite having energy earlier, it feels like the anemia has kicked in and I'm just lacking the energy. Mer!

Mom and Rich have encountered a wedding problem. Their wedding is Mother's Day weekend, and so, they're having difficulty finding a place that would even consider selling them wedding flowers that weekend. Artificial flowers have become a possibility.

Alas, another Monday...

Finally feeling a little better today. Or, I was, earlier. I got up on time, even got to work a few minutes early. Went for my chiro appointment after work. And now? I'm oscillating between feeling blasé and wanting to jump out of my skin. Hopefully, my body will settle down a little and I'll get some reading done.

Work itself wasn't too bad. I am now able to use my sick and vacation time, save for the "bank" time. In any event, there were no problems making arrangements for my dental appointment next week. Other than that, it was a productive, yet quiet day.

Not much else. We need a new dishwasher. The motor in the current one is on its last legs. Mom and Rich have started looking for a suitable replacement.

Rocky was extremely hyper a little while ago. He was playing with one of his new toys he got for Christmas, jumping on and off the bed, running up and down the hall. Keep in mind, he's 20-22 pounds, so, you hear him quite well. Fortunately, he did not lose his toy and is instead "feeding" it while he's zonked on the bed. Meanwhile, Yoda admonishes Mom and Rich, "You be good now" as they leave for dinner. Yes, folks, this is my life, strange as it is.

In other news...

Conan the Librarian rage! Tony Lee from Career Cast and making an article for CNBC apparently shat out an article that said that being a librarian is one of the least stressful occupations. Granted, I'm not a librarian, but I play one on TV work in a library, I can say that this guy has no fucking clue. I mean, seriously, if this job was so stress-free, do you think I'd bitch about it on a regular basis? Anyway, there is, instead, this post on Blogger that reams this guy a new one. And this is a public library. Add in a collegiate/research library, and you have kids who complain about technology and hours, faculty that complain that they're not treated as gods, and frat rats coming in expecting you to practically research and write their paper for them.

And if that wasn't stressful enough... The Onion reports on AP Style, Chicago Gang Violence Among Copy Editors.

Alas, another weekend has ended. Well, just about ended. Still a few hours left. It's been productive. Cat boxes are done, laundry is done, lunches are ready to go, house is vacuumed... My life is so scintillating.

Tomorrow is a much-needed trip to the chiro after work.

I need to start bringing up the storage boxes for the Christmas decorations this week. Yeah, our decorations are up to at least Epiphany/"Little Christmas." This year, it'll be a little longer. I've tasked Mom with going through the boxes and weeding out the crap we don't use anymore or is broken or whatever.

Rocky...is weird. As mentioned on Facebook, yesterday, he was putting his toys in one of my sneakers, scooting it across the floor like action figures driving a car or a boat, then taking the toys out and playing with them again. He did this three times. He has also been "feeding" his toys - leaving them in or right next to the food dish. The feeding toys bit... Almost all of my pets - cats and dogs - have done this. And I've heard that it's rather common for lots of pet owners. I wonder if it's a sense of security that they do that. Or is it a combination of them imitating us mixed with some sort of parental urge?

Not much else going on at the moment. Right now, I'm recovering from having been productive around here while not feeling all that great. But, hey, nothing too big to take care of for awhile around here.

Anyway, more later...

They say that whatever you do on the first of the year, you'll be doing that for the rest of the year. For that reason, I had originally wanted to avoid doing the cat boxes and such, or else I'd be cleaning cat boxes all year. But today, I went ahead and did the cat boxes and such, as well as took care of the recycling, made iced tea, did grocery shopping, and took care of a few other odds and ends so that, basically, I'm actually ahead on the housework for the week so that I can deal with the shock of going back to work by coming home, feeding the furkids, and then napping.

I'm thinking - hoping - that rather than do inane things all year, rather than doing the cat boxes all frakking year, maybe instead I will be productive all year.

Granted, I was hoping to get some serious writing done over the break, as well as get myself immersed in a video game, but, I now have, instead, several days where my non-work time is fairly free. And working regular writing into my regular schedule would be good. Same thing with gaming.

On a tangent... Normally, it takes a few weeks for a vitamin regimen to really start to take hold. However, I'm noticing some improvement already. The fact that I was so productive is indicative of a bit of an energy boost. Also, I've been less hungry throughout the day. Crossing my fingers that this continues to improve and such.

Anyway, more later. Work in the AM...

As it is also my brother-in-law, Scott's, birthday, this will be a bit high-speed, low-budget, since I'm heading over there after this entry for dinners and festivities, after making a detour to the drug store for vitamins and a card.

Not much to report, though. It's been productive here. I got the grass cut and took care of the cat boxes and such. I didn't get to the vacuuming, but, oh well. There's still tomorrow. And I might be able to toss a load of laundry into the machines before I head out.

Rocky is still pretty much back to normal, save for the fact that I now have to microwave his dinners - he's back to regular Purina food - and serve them up in my room (so the goggies don't bother him). And then there's Riffy, who seems to like camping out in the doggie sleeping tent when the dogs are downstairs.

Rocky is doing fine. I gave up "keeping him quiet" in my room because last night Mom let him out while I was out "because he was pawing at the door." So far, he seems fine being out and about, and he's been avoiding the stepgoggies.

Still, he looks like BorgKitty...

"I am Rocky Horror, of FelineBorg. You will be assimilated into my hoomin serving staff. Resistance is futile."

Since his surgery was more than $100 cheaper than what I had budgeted for, I took the extra money and got a new phone today. I am back in the land of the telecommunicated! I got a dumb phone, of course; it doesn't do much more than the old phone did (when it worked, of course). But I can now take pictures and video. I got an extra charger and a USB connector for the computer, though, the USB doesn't seem to be of much use other than charging the phone via USB port. I am able to text-to-e-mail pictures to myself, so, at least there's that. Tried it out, and, well, here's Rocky's cell phone duck face...

I will somehow get duck face pictures of myself in nerdy locations... Libraries, National Museums, and so on.

On a sadder note... I doubt I'm going to make it to dance tonight. While I haven't gotten anything done, I've been pecking away at several things around here (yard stuff, pool stuff, house stuff), plus learning the new phone, and so on. With heat, exhaustion, and heat exhaustion, I'm just not feeling it. Mer.

HAPPY BIRFDAY [personal profile] liesbyomission!!

Today is...plugging along. I canceled my appointment with the blood bank. I'm still a bit dehydrated, so, I figured it's better to just reschedule for a few weeks later. Other than that, I've gotten a start on the weekend stuff. Lunch stuff is done. I still need to take care of the cat boxes, the bird cages, trash, and vacuuming the house. And laundry. But I have the pool pump running, added some chemicals, and have assembled the new vacuum. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a rainy weekend, so, not sure how much progress will be made on that front...

I'm back to thinking of taking a long weekend the weekend of my natal day. Originally, I was thinking of taking this coming Friday off to take care of all the stuff at DMV, but, I was going to take a half day the following Friday. Instead, I figure I'll save a half a day, since I'm still low on time off, and just do it all on the 27th and hope to gods they don't ruin my weekend. The plan is for that Monday to have everything around the house done and have a day to just...goof off. Ish. Honestly, as a writer, reading is important, and if I do any writing, well, that's not really goofing off. My point is: I plan for it to be a low-stress day for me.

Anyway, my little break time is over. Time to get back to house stuff.

It's been a busy day... I've gotten lots done, including cutting the grass, whacking down some little trees, getting cat boxes and such taken care of, making my sandwiches for the coming work week, getting some computer stuff done, and so on. I still need to vacuum the house and do my laundry, but, that'll be done soon enough.

Mom and Rich went to the monthly "dinner and a movie" at Church. I was debating grilling up a burger or a chicken breast when my sister showed up with surplus eggplant parmigiana. In some ways, I feel like a louse for depending on free food. Then I look at all the stuff around the house and yard that I got done today, and decide that it's all good and it all works out.

And...it was really good eggplant parmigiana! Plenty for tomorrow night's dinner, too.

Yoda really liked Mandie's visit, asking if we were okay about every other minute. Though if we didn't answer quickly enough, he'd ask again, louder and more insistent. I think he likes asking the question because he gets a response/interaction. Then Rocky sat on Mandie's lap and didn't make it easy for her to leave. When she took out her keys, he reached for them like a hyperactive 2-year-old.

Then there's Bridget... She started to follow me up the stairs, and then Rocky was following me, but behind her, and when she turned around, Rocky puffed himself up, which, of course, freaked out Bridget. So, she came the rest of the way up the stairs, and Rocky started to come up a few more steps, and then Yoda started calling and whistling for her. Which just confused Bridget even more and put her in even more of a confused/stuck state.

So, it's been a productive and interesting day thus far.

HAPPY BIRFDAY [personal profile] headtrip_honey, [profile] cosmic_kitten1, [profile] robinredpress, AND [profile] elvenjewel2012!!!

Comics will be suspended for the next few days while I'm away at a wedding.

Speaking of... I still have a shit-ton of stuff to do beforehand. Like, oh, packing. That sort of thing. Hell, I don't even know if I have a pair of dress pants that will fit.

Neighbor's daughter is pet-sitting, so, all good.

Still not crazy about going. Especially with my coccyx all inflamed. Yeah, looked it up, something about avoiding hard, narrow surfaces... Grrr. I think all the sitting on the floor, tense, contorted, and so on to pill and feed TomTom may have been the culprit. Not complaining, mind you; I'd do it all again in a heartbeat, even knowing the outcome. Though sitting on a church pew to aggravate my coccyx to satisfy people I don't really care about... Yeah.

Last night and indeed all of yesterday was quite uncomfortable. At the risk of tummy/esophagus issues, I took some ibuprofen and had an ice pack on my butt. Consequently, I got none of the stuff done that I wanted to get done, and why I am so behind today. On the bright side, my tailbone feels better today, but, I also don't want to push it.

Oh, and we got a really nice card with an exceptionally nice note from Lantana Vet yesterday. I liked how Dr. Lon wrote about TomTom: "He was cool." That damn little furball had such an effect on everyone he came into contact with.

Rocky is still being quite snuggly.

Anyway, I'd better get back to work on everything here...

So...it's been a semi-relaxing, semi-productive weekend thus far. I still have some stuff I want to take care of, like finishing my laundry, but otherwise, it's going okay. I spent the better part of the day yesterday cleaning out my linen closet so Rich can get to the pipes to fix my shower. I didn't think it would take all that much time, but, there was more crap there to go through than I thought. On the bright side, I threw out some broken stuff and a ton of things that were past expiration or not used or whatever. Old contact lens stuff and weird shampoos and stuff like that. I'm hoping that when the shower is fixed and I can put all this crap away that that will take a little less time and things will be a little better organized.

Last night, I went over to Jess' place because she wanted to have a Big Bang Theory marathon. She had a drinking game set up, but, since I can't drink, she made popcorn for me to use instead. Anyway, we watched the first four or five episodes of the third season. It was fun.

Since she lives in Wilmington in an area I'm not familiar with at all, I finally tried out the GPS "tomtom" unit my co-worker gave me when she got a new GPS a year ago... Anyway, the device worked out really well! Got there, got home, no problems, easy peazy... Woot!

This weekend, I also went to Concord Pet and got some rawhide bones and chew bones for Bridgett and Brandon. There seems to be happiness on their end and less destruction of cat toys. Hoomin wins! I also got a laser pointer that has a diffuser to make shapes of a butterfly, a smiley face, a star, and a mousie in addition to the Red Dot. I tried it out with TomTom and Rocky. Hilarity ensued. For a 15-year-old, TomTom is still quite spry! Then there was when I projected a laser butterfly on TomTom's hind leg, and Rocky did that little bunny hop thing to tackle it. As if that wasn't funny enough, TomTom just looked at him and said, "Really? Are you really that fucking stupid?" Anyway, I need to try it on Riffy and Minerva. I'm hoping to engage them in cooperative dot hunting with Rocky to see if that will help them all bond a little better.

To give another little peak into my supposed brain... I stopped at Path Mark last night to get another big bag of cat crunchies, since I had just emptied the last one. On the way to the cat aisle, I passed the produce section and got excited when I saw they had peaches. Because they haven't had peaches the last time I went there and needed fruit for the parrot. So, I think all the pets got something from me this weekend. I guess I should be too surprised - or put off - that I can't move around here without some critter hugging or licking me.

Eh, it is what it is.

Today was busy!

Despite yesterday being a total painful clusterfuck of kidney stone pain, I still managed to get up at a decent time and proceed with the weekend's chores. Our dishwasher is on the fritz, so, we're doing dishes by hand for now. Now, Mom and [profile] anaidiana are away this weekend for a handbell thing, so, it's just me. But there was a pile of dishes in the sink and, after making my sandwiches for the coming work week, I tackled all the dirty dishes (including pet dishes). I got my laundry started, then took care of the cat boxes, bird cages, and trash. Then I went to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription and some gummi worms. After that, I vacuumed the house. All that's left is to finish up my laundry once it's done in the dryer and finish up with taking down the Christmas tree. Mom got most if not all of her ornaments off and put away, so, it shouldn't take me too long to finish up. The ongoing saga of working on my taxes will be for next weekend, though, I might get a start on it this week.

Oh, and taking care of a few clocks for daylight savings. Being that we had a 10-minute power outage this morning, I took care of a good number of clocks then. May as well, right? But there are a few battery-operated clocks to take care of, as well as my watch and the clock in my car. The rest are already done or will automatically adjust.

Love and support to [profile] popfiend, who laid his wife, Lisa, to rest today. Wish I could be with you, bro, but, you've got plenty of people, so, all good...

Also kind of sad...

That's Atlantis and Discovery, together for the last time at Kennedy Space Center before Discovery is flown to the Smithsonian. And yeah, it's kind of sad to see Atlantis there with the nosecone RCS assembly missing as well as the rest of her engines. The end of an era. And it's all the more sad considering I'm working my way through the From the Earth to the Moon DVDs and reading Neil deGrasse Tyson's Space Chronicles. Human beings in general and Americans in this particular case have become real pussies when it comes to space and manned space exploration, or even the drive to advance ourselves and our civilization. This is the 21st Century. If I want to take a trip to the moon for a long weekend to get some writing done, I should be able to do so. Affordably. Instead, maybe I should learn Russian and Chinese, since those are the two remaining space powers.

On a lighter note... io9 has uncovered a letter from Muppet Labs congratulating NASA on the MARS rovers.

Hmmm... Maybe the Muppets are a good investment...
